2017 Compute Ontario HPC Summer School

The Compute Ontario Summer School on High Performance and Technical Computing is an annual educational event for students, post-docs and researchers in the areas of computational science. Jointly organized by SHARCNET (Ontario-West), SciNet(Ontario-Central) and the Centre for Advanced Computing (Ontario-East), attendees are provided with opportunities to learn and share knowledge and experience in high performance and technical computing. This all-week series of workshops will cover a range of high-performance computing related subjects. The Summer School will be conducted in three instalments for the different regions of Ontario:

  • University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, May 29 - June 2, 2017 (SHARNET)
  • University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, July 24 - 28, 2017 (SciNET)
  • Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, July 31 - August 4, 2017 (CAC)

Recent Workshops

Software Carpentry @ Queen's

We conducted an SWC workshop during **Reading Week 2017**. This was a three-day workshop giving a thorough introduction to multiple aspects of scientific programming in the framework of Software Carpentry style lectures and hands-on labs:

  • Programming with R, including visualization
  • Using the bash shell on Unix systems
  • Version control with GIT
  • Advanced topics withe an emphasis on bioinformatics will be covered on Day3

The workshop took place at Queen's University, on February 21-23, 2017.

Software Carpentry @ The University of Ottawa

We also held another SWC workshop in the same week at the University of Ottawa. This was a two-day workshop giving a an introduction to scientific programming in the framework of Software Carpentry style lectures and hands-on labs:

  • Programming with R, including visualization
  • Using the bash shell on Unix systems
  • Version control with GIT

The workshop took place at The University of Ottawa, on February 23-24, 2017.

2016 Compute Ontario HPC Summer School.
