This competition is used to allocate computational resources for research projects in the time period of April 2020 - March 2021.  With sparse computational resources across Canada, researchers at Queen's University may consider to make an application. This info session is directed at novices to such applications, as well as those who would like to be informed about changes from previous years.

The capacity required for research computing is often beyond what can covered by local resources in the research lab. The workshop aimed to give a thorough introduction to multi-threading on shared-memory platforms, starting with the simplest of approaches, automatic parallelization through an enabled compiler. The next step was the usage of OpenMP compiler directives to assist the compiler and convert existing serial programs into multi-threaded ones minimum effort. Finally, the usage of Posix thread-libraries was considered.
